Repair shops that work on small-form-factor iPhones often hope the 12 mini and 13 mini batteries are the same part. They look identical out of the phone, but the electrical details make swapping them risky.
Spec comparison
| Spec | iPhone 12 mini | iPhone 13 mini |
|---|---|---|
| Capacity | 2227 mAh | 2406 mAh |
| Watt-hour | 8.57 Wh | 9.34 Wh |
| Connector keying | Single-row B2B | Single-row B2B, revised pinout |
| Cell dimensions | Same footprint, same thickness | Same footprint, same thickness |
| BMS pairing | A2399 / A2176 family | A2628 / A2481 family |
What fits and what does not
- Mechanically: both cells drop into either frame because the footprint and adhesive pattern match.
- Electrically: the 13 mini connector uses a revised pinout. A 12 mini cell in a 13 mini can refuse to charge or report a service warning.
- Capacity: using the lower-capacity 12 mini cell in a 13 mini gives ~7% less runtime.
The safe rule
Stock two SKUs: one for iPhone 12 mini and one for iPhone 13 mini. The cells are cheap enough that cross-fitting saves nothing and risks a callback. Our battery collection lists each mini model separately.
FAQ
Will a 13 mini battery physically close in a 12 mini? Yes, but iOS may reject it or hide Battery Health. Not worth the risk.
Do they share the same adhesive pull-tabs? The tab layout is identical; the adhesive kit is shared if you stock it separately.
