The iPhone X was Apple's first iPhone with a stacked logic board, and the charging port flex is routed through three layers of bracket. Get one screw wrong and you crack the board-side pads. Walk through the full repair here.
Tools you need
- Pentalobe P2 driver for the bottom screws
- Tri-point Y000 driver for internal brackets
- Phillips #000 for the port bracket
- Heating pad or hot air at 65–80 °C
- Plastic picks, suction cup, spudger, tweezers
- Isopropyl, fresh water-seal adhesive
Budget 50–60 minutes for the first attempt; experienced techs cut it to 30.
Step-by-step
- Power off, remove bottom pentalobes, heat the lower edge 2 minutes
- Suction-cup the bottom, lift the display, open like a book to the left (the top flex cables are short — do not pry past 90°)
- Disconnect the battery first
- Remove the display assembly completely to access the lower bracket
- Unclip the antenna line, unscrew the port bracket (four screws, three different lengths — lay them out on a magnet pad)
- Lift the old charging port flex out — note the microphone gasket, transfer it if the new flex lacks one
- Seat the new flex, route the antenna line back, torque the three screw sizes back in their original positions
- Reconnect battery last, then perform the five tests below before sealing
The five post-repair tests
- Charge test: 0% to 80% within 30 minutes via a 20 W adapter
- Sync test: iTunes / Finder recognition
- Mic test: voice memo records clean audio at 30 cm
- Speaker test: speakerphone and bottom loud speaker both play
- Audio routing test: Siri responds when spoken to at arm's length
If any of those fail, the most common cause is the antenna line not seated in its channel — not a bad flex. Re-seat before reordering.
Common mistakes
- Mixing the three bracket screw sizes — the board-side pads crack under wrong torque
- Forgetting the water seal — warranty arguments in three months
- Skipping the battery disconnect — shorting the board pads destroys the phone

FAQ
iPhone X or iPhone XS charging port — same part? Footprint is the same, but connector pinouts differ subtly. Order by exact model from the charging port collection to avoid a phantom "not charging" comeback.
What MOQ for testing a new supplier's port? 10 pieces mixed is enough to evaluate connector feel and gasket quality on the bench.
